Finca El Retiro is its own volcano. It is part of the Apaneca Ila atepec mountain range. This farm has been COE winner and belongs to the Pacas family since 1927. Café Pacas is committed to contributing in a positive manner to society. Since 2012, they have developed a social responsibility strategy, which includes wellness workshops that are offered to their people.
Finca El Retiro cultivated with Bourbon, Pacamara and Bernardina varietals. Its shade is very diverse, apart from the Inga Trees, it also has a variety of mountain trees that are endangered. The purpose of doing this is to create a diversity of botanical species. Because of it’s location, it produces spectacular coffees, all of them unique and special.
Sudan Rume is a varietal known for its high quality. It has originally emerged in southern Sudan, and it was considered a “research varietal”.
At first, Pacas family planted 20 Rume trees in their varietal garden located at Finca La Providencia. They watched them grow and produce small amounts of
coffee: it was very rare and special. These rare trees are planted at 1450 masl and produce a spectacular coffee that has notes of mango, pears and cherry.
